Still Waters is a video mapping installation for the Nieuwestad Canal in Leeuwarden. It’s the second installation in a series exploring the meaning of common expressions, deconstructing language through water reflections. Inspired by the Dutch expression Stille wateren hebben diepe gronden (“still waters have deep roots”), it plays with the words we process instinctively: waters have roots, run still… Gathering with the words of French philosopher Gaston Bachelard in L’Eau et les Rêves, the projection asks: Could one truly describe a past without images of depth?
