The video documents the audiovisual performance presented on July 19, 2025, at Fonte Maggiore in Macerata, Italy. The work takes the form of a video mapping installation projected onto a printed image of the fountain. It is part of the PlayVisual – Nuove Visioni Digitali exhibition, taking place from July 20 to September 26, 2025, at the Ex Mercato delle Erbe in Macerata.
tornare alla fonte is a site-specific light installation conceived for Fonte Maggiore in Macerata.
The work unfolds in the third basin of the Fonte, under the portico. Glimmers of light are visible from the street, inviting passersby to cross the garden and draw closer. As they approach, projections reveal sentences reverberating within the fountain’s architecture — appearing on the water’s surface, on the pool’s bottom, on the surrounding walls, and in shimmering reflections that at times dissolve into abstraction.
The projected words and expressions revolve around the notion of the “source,” repeating like an incantation in rhythm with the constant sound of falling water. The title, tornare alla fonte (literally, “to go back to the source”), evokes both the physical act of moving toward the architecture and the metaphorical search for origins — here, alluding to the city’s ongoing efforts to restore these ancient fountains, once central to urban life but now relegated to its margins. The installation seeks to reactivate the site, engaging with its history and layers of meaning through light.
